On 21st May 2025, Jennifer Fraser, Philip Jagessar and Thandeka Cochrane, in collaboration with Caitjan Gainty, Agnes Arnold-Forster and Paul Addae, hosted an interactive mapping workshop to explore the relationship between bodies and the wider environment.
Different health traditions map the relationship between interior bodies and outside worlds in different ways, echoing understandings of geographies both internal and external. In this workshop, participants were invited to explore the connections between their bodies and the wider world through a series of participatory mapping exercises. Ranging from palmistry and sensory storytelling to network mapping, these activities prompted critical reflections on personal and population health and got participants thinking about the different ways that our bodies and health are entangled with socio-material environments. A short video about the workshop can be found here: https://youtu.be/oqmMDoLr2Pk.
The workshop was facilitated by members of the Healthy Skepticism project in partnership with Livingmaps –a collective of researchers, community activists, artists and mapmakers using participatory counter-mapping to help communities drive social change.
This event was supported by a SSHM-Wellcome Network Grant.
