This workshop, which was held in the wonderful setting of the Brocher Foundation on Lake Geneva in June 2024, brought together historians, social scientist, epidemiologists and physicians from South Asia, Latin America, Africa and Euro-America to explore and unsettle the longstanding assumptions about what technological innovations mean, what makes them possible, and what impact they have on cancer care and society in the global south. Over the course of three days, participants listened to presentations on a range of technologies from vaccines and testing to international classification systems to digital patient records to radiotherapy machines and discussed what socio-technical made them possible, what political imaginaries were driving them and how they reconfigured patient lives and mobilities. There are plans to publish some of the presentations and illuminating, interdisciplinary exchanges that took place during the workshop.
